About Mekomot:

Makomot (places), a training center for senior local government officials, was launched in July 2021 through a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Interior, Yad Hanadiv, and Sheatufim organization.

Mekomot was established recognizing the pivotal role of local government in the lives of Israeli citizens and the increasing complexity of the challenges they face, as well as the direct impact of human resources on their performance.

Makomot provides a cutting-edge national training infrastructure for senior local government officials and acts as a hub for developing a common language and promoting collaborative efforts among local authorities and their communities.

The management committee of Makomot is comprised of representatives from the initiative’s partners, including government ministries, the Center for Local Government, local authorities, and academia.

Why are we here

Mekomot operates for the training and guidance of senior management level in local government, with a commitment to providing excellent service to citizens, and strengthening the foundations of local democracy.

The school’s training will operate in two channels:
The first channel is mandatory management training upon entry into the role, including professional and managerial content aspects, and takes place during the first two years of the role. The second channel is advanced training, which is part of professional development throughout the role’s lifespan. After completing the training, mekomot graduates will be part of a network of graduates who will continue to learn, meet, and develop throughout their role.

Forms of Action

In the years 2024-2025, three action channels will be established: Senior management School, learning hub and a knowledge Center.

Senior management School

The school for the development and training of senior local government officials, accompanying them from their entry into the role and throughout their tenure.

The school trains the officials with an emphasis on excellence, connection to the field, and up-to-dateness in materials and learning methods.

Learning Hub

The connection between knowledge, professionals, and senior local government officials enables joint learning to address systemic challenges.

“Makomot” operates joint learning groups in several authorities, and the learning products are distributed to relevant local authorities and government ministries.

Knowledge center

Partnerships, meetings, and concentration of expertise create the basis for the production and dissemination of knowledge in the municipal field.

The center collects knowledge from the government, authorities, and other sources in Israel and around the world and makes it accessible to local government officials.
